LILLIAN QUINN
Attorney and Counselor of
Law
Lillian, who was born and raised in Helena Montana, graduated
from the University of
Montana with a BA in English and
a BA in Theatre and taught high school students before
attending law school. She graduated from Northwestern
School of Law/Lewis and Clark, in Portland, OR in 1992.
She immediately passed the bar and has been certified to
practice law by
the State of Oregon since 1992.
Lillian practiced traditional family law in Portland,
Oregon and saw first hand the devastation of litigation
on families and individuals. She felt that there had to
be a better way. When she moved to Bend and opened up
her practice in the summer of 2003, she was determined
to offer people the chance to avoid litigation. Lillian
started “Non Hostile Family Law” with the intention of
providing a low cost humane way to go through the
divorce process. She empowers people with legal
knowledge so that they can make their own decisions.
She is a skilled negotiator and mediator. Lillian’s
clients are able to make informed decisions as opposed
to having a Judge make those same decisions.
Lillian strongly feels that “Divorce is not an end to
the family; it is the reorganization of the family”.
Studies have shown that children thrive when there is a
non-hostile approach used by parents during the divorce
process. People without children will benefit by going
through the process in a non-hostile manner. People who
want an economical savings and emotional well being can
benefit from the limited legal services she provides.
Lillian offers two services:
1) Limited Legal Services – Lillian represents the
Petitioner (wife or husband) and takes them through the
divorce process. Litigation is not part of the
agreement. At any time, the other spouse can seek legal
counsel. She works to provide an environment where the
parties can negotiate and come to decisions themselves.
She provides information on spousal support, how to
split the assets and debt, and how to calculate child
support, etc. Most clients finish the divorce process
in a 2 to 3 month period for a low cost flat fee. If
the parties are willing, Lillian will meet with both
Husband and Wife in the initial consultation.
2) Mediation – Lillian acts as the attorney/mediator
working with both the Husband and Wife to see if a
compromise can be achieved regarding the issues facing
the couple. She acts as a neutral party and helps the
parties understand the law and what a Judge might rule.
It is understood that the mediator has no power to
decide disputed issues for the parties and tries to help
the parties themselves reach a fair agreement. Lillian
can draft up a Marital Settlement Agreement but she will
be unable to draft the other documents for the divorce
and another attorney’s service will be needed. After
mediating, it would be unfair for her to represent just
one party.
